(HOME TEAM in Caps):
Texans (-3.0) over LIONS
Detroit and Dallas play on thanksgiving every year. I use to hate this fact for one simple reason, the Lions SUCKED! It always meant an uncompetitive blow out at 6pm and waiting for the 9pm hoping that there would be a good match up for the Cowboys. Well, that way of thinking has definitely changed over the past few seasons. The Lions are a decent side, with narrow margins in their defeats. However, they are playing the Texans this year and this match up could be reminiscent of the old times. The Texans struggled against the Jags which was a shock to everyone considering Jacksonville has only one once . . . against Indy. It’s not a coincidence that both games were division games. Very few teams know the Texans like the Jags( who play them twice a year). The Lions are not one of those teams. When the Texans needed to play, they came back from a 14 point deficit as their offense and defense came alive. They will carry that momentum into Detroit tonight. It could be another long night for Lions fans
Redskins (+3.5) over COWBOYS
The Cowboys have pulled off narrow wins against the Redskins in their last three outings (all by three points or less). Unlike before, The Redskins have a quarterback in RG3 (fifth in the league with a 101.0 passer rating and leads the league in rushing yards by a Quarterback and rushing touchdowns with 6) and have already proven that they are capable of beating any team in the NFC East with a narrow loss to the Giants and dominating the woeful Eagles last week. Dallas needed a fourth quarter comeback and overtime to beat Cleveland so I wouldn’t be hopping on the Cowboys comeback bandwagon just yet. And with injuries to their running backs Demarco Murray and Felix Jones, the Cowboys will be relying heavily on Tony Romo who took a beating last week (sacked 7 times). Romo will be forced to throw into zone coverage and I’m predicting him to be picked off at least twice in this one.
Patriots (-6.5) over JETS
I rightly predicted a close contest in this one the last time these two teams play. With Gronkowski out, you would think that the Patriots offense will not be a clinical as last week against the Colts. That is until you realize that the Quarterback in question is one Tom Brady who has made a living in making wide receivers look good and defenses poor. Brady is going to carve the defense up like a thanksgiving turkey (obligatory turkey reference). The Pats know they dodged a bullet the last time and they will want to put the final nail in the coffin that is the New York Jets season. The Patriots defense is going up against statically one of the worst Quarterbacks in the league in Mark Sanchez (completed only 53.5% of his passes) despite him throwing 15 of 20 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown. And this is after the Pats handed Andrew Luck the biggest wake up call of his career thus far. The Jets needed to be turnover free in this one and, with Sanchez under center, that has only happened twice this year.
Happy Thanksgiving but, most importantly, Happy Football people!!
